Permethrin-induced oxidative damage in liver of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and its attenuation by vitamin C
Authors
Abstract:
The objective of this study was to investigate the propensity of permethrin (PTN) to induce oxidative stress and changes in enzyme activities in liver of rainbow trout and its possible attenuation by vitamin C. Forty-eight fish were randomly assigned to 1 of 6 treatment groups and their livers were used for liver perfusion method: control (0 μgL-1 permethrin and 0 mgL-1 vitamin C), PTN-0.16 (0.16 μgL-1 permethrin), PTN-0.32 (0.32 μgL-1 permethrin), PTN-0.64 (0.64 μgL-1 permethrin), Vit. C (17.2 mgL-1 vitamin C), and PTN-0.64 + Vit. C (0.64 μgL-1 permethrin and 17.2 mgL-1 vitamin C). Results obtained showed that permethrin significantly (P

Rainbow trout are classified as Oncorhynchus mykiss, and as such belong to the same genus as Pacific salmon, and to the family Salmonidae, which includes Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), various trout (Salvelinus sp.), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus) and whitefish (Coregonus sp.). Rainbow trout are native to areas around the North Pacific Ocean, from souther...
full textSerotonin-induced brain glycogenolysis in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).
In this study, we evaluated the serotonin-mediated control of cerebral glycogen levels in the rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) administration of serotonin (5-HT) to normoglycemic trout (time and dose response) decreased glycogen levels in the brain and increased brain glycogen phosphorylase activity (time response). In hypoglycemic fish (that had been fasted ...
full texthistopathological alterations induced by diazinon in rainbow trout (oncorhynchus mykiss)
diazinon is a moderately persistent organ phosphorus pesticide largely used in agriculture. thepurpose of this study was to evaluate the histopathological damages induced by diazinon in gills, kidney, spleen, and intestine tissues of rainbow trout, oncorhynchus mykiss. the fishes were exposed to sub-lethalconcentrations of diazinon (0.1 and 0.2 mg/l) for a period of 28 days. tissues analyzed by ...
